Viondy Merisma’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a champion of sustainable agriculture is a testament to his unwavering dedication, resilience, and commitment to environmental stewardship. His path has been marked by challenges, triumphs, and a deep-seated passion for cultivating a healthier planet through regenerative farming practices.

Viondy’s educational journey began with formal training at Grass Roots Institute in Randolph, Massachusetts, where he delved into the fundamentals of organic cultivation. This foundational education provided him with a solid understanding of sustainable farming methods, including soil health, nutrient management, and pest control. It was during this time that Viondy’s interest in sustainable agriculture was sparked, laying the groundwork for his future advocacy and leadership in the field.

Driven by his desire to deepen his knowledge and skills, Viondy sought out additional training and mentorship opportunities. In 2018, he seized the opportunity to attend Chris Trump’s five-day intensive workshop, held at Chanticleer Acres Farm in Litchfield, Connecticut. This immersive experience exposed Viondy to advanced concepts in regenerative agriculture, including Korean Natural Farming (KNF), JADAM, and other innovative farming methods. Under the guidance of industry experts and practitioners, Viondy honed his understanding of soil health, plant biology, and ecosystem dynamics, gaining invaluable insights and practical skills that would shape his approach to farming and environmental stewardship.

In 2023, Viondy further expanded his knowledge by studying the principles of JADAM under Youngsang Cho at SUNY Adirondack in Queensbury, New York. This additional training provided Viondy with a deeper understanding of natural farming practices and further enhanced his expertise in sustainable agriculture. Viondy continued his educational journey by attending another intensive workshop, this time hosted at Dave’s Greens Farm in Truro, Massachusetts. It was during this workshop that Viondy’s dedication and proficiency in sustainable agriculture were recognized, and he was awarded the prestigious title of SoilSmith. This accolade not only affirmed Viondy’s expertise but also symbolized his commitment to nurturing the earth and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

In addition to his educational pursuits, Viondy has been actively involved in the sustainable agriculture community. He has farmed at Land’s Sake Farm in Weston, Massachusetts, from 2019 to 2021, where he gained hands-on experience in organic farming practices and community engagement. Viondy has also been aiding the Waltham Fields Community Farm, contributing his expertise to furthering sustainable agriculture initiatives in the local community.

Beyond his work in agriculture, Viondy is deeply committed to serving his community in various capacities. He is the co-founder of The Watch City Program, a non-profit youth football club in Waltham, Massachusetts, dedicated to providing athletic opportunities and mentorship to local youth. Additionally, Viondy manages the Warming Center, a homeless shelter in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he provides support and assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness. He also serves as a housing coordinator for Bay Cove Human Services, where he aids the homeless in finding permanent housing and access to essential resources.

Prior to his work in sustainable agriculture and community service, Viondy pursued a career in professional football. He played for the Tennessee Titans in the National Football League (NFL), showcasing his athleticism and determination on the field. Despite the demands of his athletic pursuits, Viondy remained deeply connected to the land, recognizing the vital role that sustainable agriculture plays in preserving the health of our planet and nourishing our communities.
